Reserve Bank celebrates its Pearl Jubilee

The National Reserve Bank of Tonga celebrated its 30th Anniversary on Friday 12th July 2019 at the Reserve Bank’s Conference Centre. To commemorate the occasion, the Reserve Bank held a Thanksgiving Service led by Reverend Dr. Taliai Niumeitolu followed by a reception. The guest of honour for the day was Lord Ma’afu and other distinguished guests included former Reserve Bank Governor Siosi Mafi and former employees, members from the public and private sectors.

The Governor, Sione Ngongo Kioa, welcomed guests commenting on the Reserve Bank’s achievements over the years. The Governor remarked that the Reserve Bank’s operational autonomy and its emphasis on providing high quality outputs had contributed to its continuing successful relationships within the commercial banking and private sector as well as the regional central banks and international financial institutions.

The celebrations continued with performances of two original compositions by the Reserve Bank staff performing a Mako and Ma’ulu’ulu.

The Reserve Bank aims to consistently be an institution of excellence to achieve its mandate as the nation’s financial regulator and supervisor.

The National Reserve Bank of Tonga was established on 1st July, 1989.
