Official foreign reserves held by the National Reserve Bank of Tonga (NRBT) rose by $15.6 million over the month of June 2017 to $407.9 million, equivalent to 7.4 months of imports. Over the past year, the official foreign reserves rose by $53.0 million.

The National Reserve Bank of Tonga has received eleven $50 pa'anga notes of the new design currency (King Tupou VI series) confirmed to be counterfeit notes. The Reserve Bank is concerned that there could be more of such $50 counterfeit notes in circulation.

The National Reserve Bank of Tonga would like to advise the general public, businesses, super markets and companies to return and exchange such mutilated coins either at the Reserve Bank or to a Commercial Bank to be exchanged with good quality coins.
